Jasmine Brimsmayd (They/She) is an Actor, Writer, and Filmmaker. Jasmine has appeared in the short film "Frankie", which has gone to several fests including Raindance, the Calgary Underground Film Festival, and OUT at the Movies International Film fest. Jasmine was also the body Double for the late Melvin Van Peebles in the Standing on the Corner's music video “Angel”, and appeared in Off-Off Broadway New Work productions. Recently, she graduated with an MFA in Acting from CalArts, where they performed in productions of "The Water Station", “El Misterio”, and “Here Be Sirens”. They recently performed in the gothic theatrical experience “BARDO” At the United Theatre, ahead of the new Opera “Black Lodge”.
As a Filmmaker, Jasmine specializes in Script Supervising, utilizing her Narrative and Editing eye she developed while working for brands like Vice and Disney to maintain continuity of each shot and scene. Jasmine takes their time to learn the Spatial and Temporal language of each project, and uses that understanding to communicate with the Director and all teams. Jasmine brings her experience working within different departments and both sides of the camera to communicate within the language of each department.
Jasmine’s mission as an artist is a focus on the intersectionality of Queerness and Blackness, and the space of possibility from between one word and another, one phrase and another, one gesture and another, and the power in specificity of those chosen things from that place of possibility.
Jasmine is deeply passionate about the many facets of storytelling. Whether through spoken text or the visual poetry of the film, Jasmine aims to tell stories that have historically not been told.
